{"id":410670,"date":"2026-09-25T20:54:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T20:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/410670\/"},"modified":"2026-09-25T20:54:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T20:54:08","slug":"home-invasion-suspect-shot-by-airbnb-renter-in-fort-lauderdale-police-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/410670\/","title":{"rendered":"Home invasion suspect shot by Airbnb renter in Fort Lauderdale, police say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two people are facing attempted felony murder charges after police say they broke into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/south-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">South Florida<\/a> Airbnb and got into a fight with the person inside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/news\/fort-lauderdale-shooting-altercation-september-24-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">before shots were fired<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/fort-lauderdale\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fort Lauderdale<\/a>\u00a0police said the suspects broke into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/airbnb\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Airbnb<\/a> on Northwest 19th Avenue and 8th Street in an attempt to rob it.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shooting<\/a> is being investigated as a case of self-defense, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everybody was running,&#8221; witness says<\/p>\n<p>Arthur Butler Jr. said he heard gunfire coming from the Airbnb across the street from him on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maybe at least 10, and then everybody was running,&#8221; Butler Jr. said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/fort-lauderdale-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fort Lauderdale Police<\/a> said 18-year-old Dareon Pubien and 25-year-old Sean Thompson broke into the home armed with guns.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/snapshot-1.jpg#.webp\" alt=\"snapshot-1.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Sean Thompson<\/p>\n<p>                Broward Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/p>\n<p>The problem for the suspects \u2013 the renter was armed too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It started off shooting inside the house, then it came out,&#8221; Butler Jr. said.<\/p>\n<p>Trail of blood led police to home invasion suspect<\/p>\n<p>Police said Pubien was shot in his upper torso.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A trail of blood showed where Pubien ended up around the corner from the Airbnb where another neighbor, who did not want to go on camera, says he watched police working to save his life.<\/p>\n<p>Paramedics transported him to the hospital where he had surgery.
