The DeLand Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0) were firing on all cylinders as they overwhelmed the Hawks (4-2, 0-1) in a Class 6A District 2 opener.

After a dominant first quarter where the defense held the Spruce Creek offense to only 18 total yards, DeLand did not look back as quarterback Gardner Nordman and running back Taihj Moore led the offense.

Nordman threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 42 yards and, aside from a fumble in the second quarter, played flawless football.

Moore had 8 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. You definitely don’t want to give up two scores. But, you know, wins are hard to get. Spruce Creek is very well coached, and so I’m just glad to get a win. But there’s a lot of improvement we still got to do.”

Cameron Gensler caught two passes for 103 yards and scored a rushing touchdown in the win.

Kaveon Jackson ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown, being the team’s go-to weapon in short yardage situations.

IN-GAME UPDATES:

TOUCHDOWN: A bad handoff by DeLand is recovered by Spruce Creek’s Kaden Woodie, who returns it 49 yards for the touchdown.
