{"id":410960,"date":"2026-09-26T03:36:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-26T03:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/410960\/"},"modified":"2026-09-26T03:36:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-26T03:36:10","slug":"alcaraz-and-mensik-win-doubles-to-put-team-europe-up-3-1-after-opening-day-of-laver-cup-orlando-sentinel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/410960\/","title":{"rendered":"Alcaraz and Mensik win doubles to put Team Europe up 3-1 after opening day of Laver Cup \u2013 Orlando Sentinel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON (AP) \u2014 Carlos Alcaraz and doubles partner Jakub Mensik gave Team Europe a 3-1 lead over Team World after the opening day of the Laver Cup on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz and Mensik beat Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the final match of the day at the O2 Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Rafael Jodar had broken a 1-1 deadlock after the day session by defeating Bublik 6-2, 6-3 in the evening\u2019s singles match.<\/p>\n<p>In the day session, Brandon Nakashima made the most of his <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tennis-laver-cup-alcaraz-632cd5f9e2b736214ff784f299eae46e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Laver Cup<\/a> debut by beating Mensik 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.<\/p>\n<p>The 16th-ranked Nakashima was a late addition to Andre Agassi\u2019s roster after <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ben-shelton-laver-cup-2dcb2dc12b54e837b92878500300c2f7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Open runner-up Ben Shelton withdrew<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>In the event\u2019s opener, Casper Ruud beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-8 to give Europe an early lead.<\/p>\n<p>There are four matches per day in the three-day event.<\/p>\n<p>Wins are worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three points on Sunday.
