As Kansas City safety Alohi Gilman took Achane down, he grasped him by the top of the helmet, causing Achane’s body to twist while his left leg was planted.

Achane was slow to get up initially. Then, he had two teammates come to his side and call for help from the training staff as Achane stood up and was hesitant to walk on his own.

The star running back then walked gingerly to the sideline, accompanied by trainers on either side of him.

He was evaluated inside the Dolphins’ sideline injury tent before walking into the locker room slowly.

Achane was first announced by the team as being questionable to return, but shortly after halftime, he was downgraded to out. Achane was seen without his helmet and pads watching the second half from Miami’s sideline.

Achane is coming off a career-high 1,350 rushing yards accumulated in 2025. After earning his first Pro Bowl selection, he locked in a four-year contract extension in the offseason as the Dolphins changed regimes and now have the roster managed by new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.

The Dolphins already had fellow running back Jaylen Wright out, so their one other active tailback Sunday is Ollie Gordon II. Gordon scored a touchdown to cap Miami’s opening offensive series. He later dealt with cramps in the second half but was able to re-enter the action.

Pregame inactives

Dolphins cornerback JuJu Brents and wide receiver Ryan Miller, both who entered Sunday questionable, were active against the Chiefs.

Neither Brents nor Miller were listed among inactive players announced by the team 90 minutes prior to kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium.

Brents, who had a knee injury surface this past week, was available to play his key role as the third cornerback in for nickel packages, going to the boundary while rookie Chris Johnson kicks inside to cover the slot.

But when Miami’s defense started in the nickel against the Chiefs, reserve safety Julius Wood was the fifth defensive back, covering the slot while Johnson stayed on the outside.

Miller, who had hip and back ailments come up, is a key special teams contributor and, last week in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers, caught a late 77-yard touchdown. But early against Kansas City, he was called for an illegal block above the waist.

As far as Dolphins inactives along with wide receiver Caleb Douglas (ankle) and defensive end Rob Beal (hamstring), Wright (stinger/foot) was announced out after entering Sunday doubtful.

Healthy scratches for Miami were cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr., guard DJ Campbell, tackle Chukwuebuka Godrick and quarterback Brady Cook, who’s available as an emergency third quarterback.

With Douglas out, the Dolphins made veteran wide receiver Jalen Tolbert active for the first time this season. Miami also had rookie tight end Justin Joly, who is a pass-catching threat, active.

Starting receivers for Miami were Malik Washington and Chris Bell, with Kevin Coleman Jr. coming in as the third receiver.

Wright’s absence and the decision not to elevate another running back left the Dolphins with just two tailbacks Sunday — Achane and Gordon, along with fullback DJ Herman. Gordon handled Wright’s usual duties on kickoff returns.

If Joly plays, he will be the 13th rookie to play for Miami through three games.

For the Chiefs, inactive players were tackle Josh Simmons, tight end Jared Wiley, safety Chamarri Conner, outside linebacker Jack Pyburn, defensive end Tyreke Smith, tackle Diego Pounds and quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who’s available as an emergency third quarterback.

This story will be updated.

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane exited Sunday’s home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs early…

[9
5270,123,1763,125,124
post-412226","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-miami","tag-kansas-city-chiefs","tag-miami","tag-miami-dolphins","tag-miami-headlines","tag-miami-news
["GET
