President Donald Trump amplified social media posts on Saturday criticizing Miami Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, and in some cases, calling for her replacement over her ad criticizing Trump\u2019s mass deportation campaign.<\/p>\n
On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump posted a link to a Washington Post article<\/a> about Salazar facing backlash from many Latino voters who \u201csaid that she has misread their sentiment and that their support for Trump has not wavered.\u201d He then reposted more than a dozen people criticizing her and her ad.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cShe is nothing but a backstabber,\u201d one post said. \u201cI\u2019m glad the Latino support hasn\u2019t wavered.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSo we need a NEW Republican to Replace Salazar,\u201d another post said.<\/p>\n In the Sept. 17 campaign ad<\/a>, Salazar said some of Trump\u2019s enforcement efforts had gone too far, and \u201cthe same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.\u201d Trump said the next day that he still backs her for re-election<\/a> and claimed his support landed her in office.<\/p>\n But Trump\u2019s reposts on Saturday ranged from one person calling for him to remove his endorsement of her to another accusing Salazar of trying to make her political donors happy rather than her actual voters. Salazar didn\u2019t respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n In response, her Democratic opponent in the congressional race, Eliott Rodriguez, issued a statement calling Salazar \u201cso politically toxic that now even Daddy Trump appears to be distancing himself from his problem child.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd now Salazar\u2019s desperate political stunt to save her seat has left her a MAGA orphan with her political career on the brink; a bitter lesson in what happens when you sell your soul at Hotel MAGA: you can try to check out anytime you like, but you can never leave,\u201d Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n Salazar is up for re-election in the Nov. 3 general election. A spokesperson for the White House didn\u2019t immediately respond Sunday about whether Trump intends to formally withdraw his endorsement of her prior to the election.<\/p>\n
