FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Two men are facing attempted felony murder charges after police say they forced their way into a Fort Lauderdale Airbnb, sparking a shootout with the armed renter.<\/p>\n

Fort Lauderdale police said 18-year-old Dareon Pubien and 25-year-old Sean Thompson broke into the home near Northwest 19th Avenue and Eighth Street Thursday evening in an attempt to rob it.<\/p>\n

Officers say the renter was armed, too.<\/p>\n

Police said an altercation broke out inside the home before the renter shot Pubien in the upper torso. Investigators are treating the shooting as self-defense, according to police.<\/p>\n

Arthur Butler Jr., who lives across from the Airbnb, told CBS Miami<\/a> he heard multiple gunshots.<\/p>\n

“Maybe at least 10, and then everybody was running,” Butler Jr. said.<\/p>\n

He said the home had been used as an Airbnb for about two years and that this was the first time he had seen violence there.<\/p>\n

Police said a trail of blood led officers around the corner, where they found Pubien. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center<\/a> and underwent surgery. He was in critical but stable condition, according to CBS Miami. Thompson was also located and arrested.<\/p>\n

He appeared in Broward County court Friday and faces attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm charges. A judge ordered him held without bond.<\/p>\n

Police said Pubien will face the same charges once he is released from the hospital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
