You know, with as much as I loved the group of pass catchers<\/a> the Jacksonville Jaguars put together this offseason, there was one guy I didn’t expect anything out of. <\/p>\n

When Josh Cameron was drafted in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft<\/a>, I didn’t think he was going to contribute much of anything to the Jaguars’ offense this season. However, after only three games, I’ve definitely changed my mind, with the athlete’s ability to be anywhere at any time really not giving me a choice. <\/p>\n

In his latest game, the rookie wide receiver\/kick returner\/special teams dynamo sprinted down and made a tackle while covering a kick, caught a 12-yard touchdown reception, ran back two kick returns for 63 yards (which included a field-flipping 42-yarder), and logged a couple of reps as the team’s punt protector. James Gladstone has previously stated that he likes ’em versatile, but No. 19 might have taken things to the next level. <\/p>\n

Josh Cameron’s efficient start with the Jaguars is a sign of his potential <\/p>\n

On offense, Cameron hasn’t had a lot of passes come his way. Despite that, he’s statistically one of the most efficient wideouts in the entire league.<\/p>\n

After three weeks on the job, the Baylor Bear’s hauled in three receptions for 32 yards and two touchdowns. <\/p>\n

Yep, you read that last sentence correctly. A ball lobbed towards No. 19 has gone for six almost every time he’s been targeted this year. Interestingly enough, both of his TDs occurred while the Jags were blowing their opponents out of the water in the comfort of their own home. <\/p>\n

Based on what we’ve seen thus far, Liam Coen is eager to unlock the potential he’s been seeing in practice since OTAs. When asked about<\/a> Cameron’s willingness to do whatever’s asked of him, this is what Jacksonville’s second-year head coach had to say:<\/p>\n

“It’s the definition of who [Josh Cameron] is, right? He’s the personal protector on punt. He catches a touchdown in the end zone on a critical down,” Coen told the media. “Then, he runs down on kickoff and makes the tackle. Then, he gets a kickoff return out past the 50 on an explosive. So the more you can do in this league, right?”<\/p>\n

Coen continued, “Everything that he does, he does like a pro. He understands how to prepare. He’s super smart, and he’s selfless. And really, so many ways of what we’re looking for in a Jacksonville Jaguar.”<\/p>\n

While it’s clear that Coen is pleased with the rookie’s development, it’s fair to ask where Cameron’s next few chances to touch the ball will be coming from, since Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington separated themselves<\/a> from their peers in the wide receiver room during Jacksonville’s latest victory. He could opt to take some reps from Brian Thomas Jr., but there might be a more niche role for the first-year pro to sink his teeth into. <\/p>\n

Josh Cameron gives the Jaguars a new advantage in the red zone <\/p>\n

The Cedar Park, Texas native has been a sneaky weapon in the red zone, and that’s probably where he’ll keep plying his trade until James Gladstone and the front office can figure out how to handle BTJ’s puzzling situation<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Cameron’s eye-popping work on special teams<\/a> will keep him on the active roster as the team starts a brutal stretch against the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans. If we’re being honest, that’ll always be half the battle since he was a guy drafted in the deeper end of Day 3. <\/p>\n

Points will be hard to come by against all three of those teams, as they all boast monstrous defensive lines that are probably going to stuff Jacksonville’s run game and force Trevor Lawrence to beat them with his arm.<\/p>\n

Lately, that’s been a bad bet to make, but it could be better than letting the offensive line and the bruising tight ends who support it find their rhythm this early in the season. As Lawrence works to keep the turnovers low and the points high, Cameron could establish himself as the offense’s most trustworthy option inside the 20 by catching even more dimes in traffic. <\/p>\n

If he does that, I don’t think he (or anyone else) will have to worry about how often he sees the field in 2026 and beyond. <\/p>\n
