ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 The sheriff’s office identified the man found dead in the Taylor Creek Spillway<\/a> on Monday as a 22-year-old from Fort Pierce. <\/p>\n

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said that Jy’Heem Ross, 22, was last seen on November 1, around 2:30 p.m. near the area of 2000 St. Lucie Boulevard. Tragically, his body was discovered three days later on November 4, at approximately 10:30 a.m., when deputies from the Patrol Operations Bureau and members of the SLCSO Marine Unit responded to reports of a body floating in the water near 1800 of North U.S. Highway 1, according to the news release. <\/p>\n

At the scene, deputies recovered the body of a Black man with dreadlocks. SLCSO initially withheld the identity pending confirmation, but have now verified the victim as Ross. The SLCSO has extended its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jy\u2019Heem Ross during this difficult time.<\/p>\n

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division have taken over the case, which remains active. The sheriff\u2019s office is asking anyone who may have had contact with Ross prior to his death or who may have information relevant to the investigation to come forward.<\/p>\n
