ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. —

A crash involving a construction truck shut down all southbound lanes on the turnpike for nearly an hour after it caught on fire.

It happened just before 4 p.m. on Monday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck hit and broke through the guardrail near mile marker 162 before it ended up in the bushes and burst into flames due to a gas leak.

Firefighters with the St. Lucie County Fire District were seen at the site of the crash, putting out the smoke and flames. All southbound lanes were blocked at the time.

The driver was able to get out before the truck was fully engulfed, according to FHP.

Right now, only the left lane has been reopened for drivers to move around the crash. FHP said a tow truck was called and is working on removing the construction truck.

Truck crashes into guardrail and bursts into flames off the turnpike in St. Lucie County The crash happened…

[12
134787,1776,2675,1056,5990,16933,73821,7870,29306,171,173,172,2737,29346,1402,6525,5069,189
post-413262","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-port-st-lucie","tag-burst","tag-crash","tag-driver","tag-fhp","tag-firefighter","tag-flame","tag-gas-leak","tag-guardrail","tag-mile-marker","tag-port-st-lucie","tag-port-st-lucie-headlines","tag-port-st-lucie-news","tag-smoke","tag-southbound-lane","tag-st-lucie-county","tag-truck","tag-turnpike","tag-wpbf
["GET
