A Davie Town Council candidate is facing DUI charges after crashing into a utility pole, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Jordan Nelson 36 is charged with DUI, DUI with a blood alcohol level over .15, and DUI causing injury or property damage in the Sept. 25 crash, an arrest report said.<\/p>\n
The report said Nelson, a candidate for the council in Davie’s District 3, was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the area of Hiatus Road and Orange Drive.<\/p>\n
When officers responded they found Nelson sitting in the driver seat of a blue Ford F-150 that had crashed into a guardrail and knocked over a powerline, the report said.<\/p>\n
An officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from his face area, especially when he spoke, and wrote in the report that his eyes were red and glossy, he was slurring his speech and was believed to be under the influence.<\/p>\n
Nelson agreed to perform field sobriety exercises but failed to follow the instructions and was placed under arrest, the report said.<\/p>\n
The first breath sample taken from Nelson was .173 and a second was .163, both more than double the legal limit of .08, the report said.<\/p>\n
