{"id":415309,"date":"2026-10-01T02:46:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T02:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/415309\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T02:46:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T02:46:07","slug":"ebb-tide-inn-in-treasure-island-looks-to-go-vintage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/415309\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebb Tide Inn in Treasure Island looks to go vintage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. \u2014 Treasure Island was hit hard by hurricanes <a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/weather\/hurricane-center\/hurricane-helene\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Helene<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/weather\/hurricane-center\/hurricane-milton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milton<\/a>, and the community is still rebuilding.<\/p>\n<p>The area is home to many mom-and-pop motels, and many are still in distress.<\/p>\n<p>One week ago, Janis Hassell took ownership of the Ebb Tide Inn. Every day since, it\u2019s been nothing but work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love a historical property. I want to always see them restored and brought back to glory,\u201d Hassell said.<\/p>\n<p>The motel has been around since the 1950s. It was heavily damaged during Hurricane Helene. Images provided by Hassell show floodwaters and the mess left behind.<\/p>\n<p>Those scenes played out all over Treasure Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you drive down here and take a look, there are just lined up a lot of them are still in distress,\u201d Hassell said.<\/p>\n<p>Hassell is working to bring the Ebb Tide Inn back to its glory days, with what she says will be an old-school Florida vibe.<\/p>\n<p>She shared renderings of the exterior, showing some colorful options. The same goes for the rooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m personally sourcing vintage furniture for all of my units,\u201d Hassell said.<\/p>\n<p>The restoration has attracted a lot of attention from people who have stayed at the motel over the years, including Hartzell Stringer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s homey, and it feels like part of you, and it feels like part of Florida,\u201d Stringer said.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel is open for business, but there\u2019s still a lot of work to be done to restore the old motel back to that 1950s vibe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe response I\u2019ve gotten from the town and from the social media post is really positive, and reinforcing what my ideas are,\u201d Hassell said.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a labor of love for Hassell.
