On Homeless Awareness Day at Miami-Dade, teams of students, adults, and seniors raced at MDC to spotlight the growing crisis of homelessness among older adults<\/p>\n
MIAMI, FL \u2013 Nov. 10, 2025 \u2013 Miami Dade College\u2019s (MDC) Wolfson Campus once again took the lead in raising awareness about homelessness as it transformed into a one-of-a-kind racetrack for compassion and community action. On Friday, November 7, Homeless Awareness Day at Miami-Dade 2025, the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust \u201cSprint for Seniors\u201d Bed Race returned to downtown Miami \u2014 reminding the community that one in three unhoused individuals in the county are over the age of 55, making older adults the fastest-growing homeless population in Miami-Dade. <\/p>\n
Hosted by the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust and sponsored by Miami Dade College, the high-spirited event brought together teams of students, local professionals, community groups, and seniors for a lively bed race at MDC\u2019s Wolfson Campus, Kyriakides Plaza. Participants competed in creatively decorated, wheeled beds, showcasing both spirit and compassion as they raced for a cause that hits close to home.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal of the Sprint for Seniors Bed Race is to leverage this team building moment to help us make tough times temporary for our most vulnerable residents,\u201d said Ron Book, chair of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust.\u00a0 \u201cEach bed in this race stands as a symbol of dignity because every senior deserves a safe bed to sleep in \u2013 not a street corner, car, or couch. The items we provide with these dollars \u2013 kitchenettes, move-in kits, and yes, actual mattresses \u2013 will contribute to the long-term success of our clients.\u201d<\/p>\n
Proceeds from\u00a0Sprint for Seniors\u00a0will benefit the Ending Homelessness Fund<\/a>, help unhoused senior citizens weather hard times and move toward stability and care.<\/p>\n
