WHAT: Looking for something to do on Thursday nights? The Island SPACE Caribbean Museum has got you.<\/p>\n

The gallery\/exhibition space inside Plantation\u2019s Broward Mall is launching after-hours, culinary-themed workshops where you can spend the evening learning, socializing, creating and savoring.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople sometimes hear \u2018museum\u2019 and think they already know what the visitor experience will be,\u201d said Calibe Thompson<\/a>, the museum\u2019s executive director. \u201cBut we envision our museum as a place where you can be immersed in art, try something you\u2019ve never done before and have an experience that gives you a reason to come back. A museum should feel alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far (future events to come) the series includes:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Boards & Bites: Charcuterie Board Workshop, 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 8 \u2014 Deborah Vaval of Meatbox Charcuterie<\/a>\u00a0will teach you how to pair and arrange meats, cheeses, fruits and accompaniments. \u2022 Resin Workshop, 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 22 \u2014 South Florida-based I Just Resin will guide you in creating and personalizing your own resin cutting board. Tickets are $81.88, and include materials, light refreshments and a glass of wine. Visit islandspacefl.org\/resinart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The Sweet Canvas, 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 \u2014 Camille Thompson of Sweet Blooms by Camille will lead this dessert-decorating experience so you can turn sweet treats into edible works of art. EXTRA TIDBIT: The museum has something for this Saturday night, too. A Haitian Konpa Dance Workshop, led by Miami-based KOTR Konpa Dance Studio<\/a>, is set for 8 to 11 p.m. Oct. 3. Tickets range in cost from $23.18 to $71.21. Go to islandspacefl.org\/event\/konpa-class<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The evening will start with a beginner class, followed by intermediate instruction for more experienced terpsichorean talents. Afterward, a Konpa social will give guests an opportunity to practice dancing and mingle.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaribbean culture is something you can see, but it is also something you can taste, make and move to,\u201d Thompson said. \u201cWe\u2019re inviting people from every background to experience it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n
