TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Dozens of Tallahassee veterans are getting a new path to stable housing.

Volunteers of America Florida is expanding its Veteran Housing Program.

Starting Thursday, the nonprofit now offers 48 beds for free in Tallahassee as part of a new statewide contract with the Veterans Administration (VA).

In total, 102 beds are available across Florida, specifically helping veterans who are homeless or at risk of losing their housing.

Beyond housing, veterans get case management, help finding permanent housing and connections to VA healthcare.

Housing Development Director Shawn Noles said that things have changed over the years, but the need for veteran assistance has not.

“It’s a needed service, obviously continued,” Noles said. “A lot has changed over the 17 years that I’ve been here; it’s just another short-term process to help veterans who are in need get back on their feet and ultimately into their own housing.”

Volunteers of America said the goal is to help veterans get back on their feet and into homes of their own. The service is available to all veterans at no cost, as long as they are registered with the VA and deemed eligible to receive VA benefits.
