(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\">WWSB<\/a>) &#8211; Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced the release of the Florida Medical Examiners Commission\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdle.state.fl.us\/mec\/publications-and-forms\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.fdle.state.fl.us\/mec\/publications-and-forms\">2024 annual Drugs Identified in Deceased Persons Report<\/a>. The report shows year-over-year declines in drug-related deaths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the report, statewide drug-related deaths decreased, underscoring ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis in Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the release, total drug-related deaths decreased by 14% in 2024, with opioid-caused deaths dropping 32% and fentanyl-caused deaths down 35%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Fentanyl remains the leading drug in drug-related deaths. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The release also shows statistics on cocaine-related deaths decreasing 19% and methamphetamine-related deaths down 24% from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2025\/11\/06\/watch-live-desantis-hold-press-conference-palm-beach-county-thursday\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2025\/11\/06\/watch-live-desantis-hold-press-conference-palm-beach-county-thursday\/\">DeSantis breaks ground on major Everglades pump station project<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The release credits continued declines to enforcement and prevention measures, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdle.state.fl.us\/fdle-grants\/office-of-planning-and-budgeting\/programs\/safe\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.fdle.state.fl.us\/fdle-grants\/office-of-planning-and-budgeting\/programs\/safe\">SAFE<\/a> program, statewide drug interdiction and expanded naloxone access for first responders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe are incredibly encouraged to see these numbers continue to decline year after year.
