{"id":416681,"date":"2026-10-02T11:46:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/416681\/"},"modified":"2026-10-02T11:46:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:46:16","slug":"school-of-justice-installs-memorial-to-honor-fallen-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/416681\/","title":{"rendered":"School Of Justice Installs Memorial To Honor Fallen Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdc.edu\/justice\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">School of Justice<\/a> at Miami Dade College installed a mural\u2014the Fallen Officer\u2019s Memorial Wall of Honor\u2014on Aug. 18 to honor police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Miami-Dade County since 1895.<\/p>\n<p>Positioned near the entrance of Building J at North Campus, the memorial, which is 16-inch tall by 18-inch wide, features 177 acrylic nameplates with officers\u2019 names and the date they died.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s augmented by a small screen that will include an interactive feature in the future to give visitors a short narrative about the officers\u2019 lives, careers and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to memorialize these officers to recognize their sacrifice,\u201d said Richard Clements, <a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/he-was-miami-beach-police-chief-now-hes-the-school-of-justice-director-at-mdc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">director of the School of Justice<\/a>, who worked at the Miami Beach Police Department for 33 years. \u201cMoreover, I think the whole premise is that they will never be forgotten.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Miami-Dade Police Department officers, School of Justice officials and trainees gathered at North Campus to inaugurate the memorial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the School of Justice moved to its <a href=\"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/north-campus-unveils-state-of-the-art-57-million-school-of-justice-facility\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new building in 2024<\/a>, Clements wanted to continue the tradition of honoring fallen officers once established at the school\u2019s previous headquarters in building 8 with a modernized design.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A $50,000 donation from <a href=\"https:\/\/metrolifechurch.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Metro Life Church<\/a>, which is led by pastor Stephen Alessi who is the chaplain for the School of Justice, made the project possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mural took approximately six months to build, according to Evelyn Rodriguez the senior director of campus administration at North Campus.<\/p>\n<p>To assure that the records on the Fallen Officer\u2019s Memorial Wall of Honor were accurate, the SOJ enlisted the help of the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Miami-Dade Police Officers Assistance Trust. They maintain records of officers who have died in the line of duty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In May, the SOJ plans to hold an event during the National Police Officers Week to recognize the officers memorialized on the mural.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, there will be no more officers added to it anytime in the near future.
