A couple is speaking out about a frightening encounter near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when they said someone wearing a mask approached them with an axe.<\/p>\n
Jason Morgan said the Friday morning encounter was like something out of a horror movie.<\/p>\n
“He approached me and raised the axe and said, ‘Are you ready?’ And I said, ‘What is this?’ And he kind of smiled, raise it again and say, ‘You ready?'” Morgan said.<\/p>\n
Morgan said he managed to take the axe away, while his girlfriend called 911 and the person fled on foot.<\/p>\n
“He running like he’s in a movie, like a Freddy Krueger kind of person, just running off like slow motion. It was crazy,” girlfriend Lilieth Crawford said.<\/p>\n
Crawford said the man was wearing a ski mask and camouflage.<\/p>\n
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area along Southwest 34th Street just outside the perimeter of the airport around 3:20 a.m.<\/p>\n
Officials described the weapon as a hatchet.<\/p>\n
Deputies canvassed the area but weren’t able to find the person, officials said.<\/p>\n
People who work nearby said they’re concerned, especially after hearing about a similar incident just a few weeks ago. They think it may be the same person.<\/p>\n
“It’s scary. I mean, we come out at night and there’s not many lights,” worker Svetla Koleva said.<\/p>\n
