City of Tampa and Hillsborough County Schools join Sidewalk Stompers for National Walk to School Day<\/p>\n
Sidewalk Stompers will celebrate National Walk & Bike to School Day on October 7th with Hillsborough County Schools and the City of Tampa.<\/p>\n
Hillsborough County Schools Chief of Staff Dr. Marie Whelan and City of Tampa Mobility Director Brandon Campbell will welcome students walking and biking to Sulphur Springs K-8 School. The event will mark the launch of Sulphur Springs partnership with Sidewalk Stompers to promote students\u2019 safe and effective routes to school.<\/p>\n
Sulphur Springs does not provide school buses and walking and biking is a significant component of the school\u2019s transportation needs. Making sure students have access to good quality, connected walking and biking rights is essential to ensuring regular and on-time arrivals.<\/p>\n
“National Walk & Bike to School Day recognizes the importance of giving children safe and healthy routes to school,” said Emily Hinsdale, President of Sidewalk Stompers. “Keeping kids active and engaged in their community improves not just their own health, but the health of our whole region.”<\/p>\n
Hillsborough County has a total of 37 district schools registered to participate in National Walk & Bike to School Day in 2026. Launched in 2018, Sidewalks Stompers is an award-winning advocacy nonprofit, with programs that improve student health, mental wellness, community connections, and road safety. The organization\u2019s vision is a new generation engaged in active transportation, growing up healthier and better invested in their community.<\/p>\n
