St. Lucie County fire district attorney resigns amid hazing controversy<\/p>\n

St. Lucie County Fire District attorney Kim Sabol has announced her resignation as the department faces hazing allegations and policy changes.<\/p>\n

Kim Sabol, the St. Lucie County Fire District attorney, has submitted her 90-day notice of resignation, effective on Wednesday, Sept. 30. <\/p>\n

The district said it would not speculate on what led to Sabol\u2019s decision, but her resignation comes amid hazing allegations within the department. <\/p>\n

Three firefighters were fired over what the district described as hazing. Video appears to show them giving their coworkers electric shocks through a modified bug zapper. <\/p>\n

The firefighters are now fighting to get their jobs back, claiming the firings were retaliation for filing complaints against district leadership. <\/p>\n

St. Lucie County Fire Board members are currently working to create a new complaint review policy for fire department leadership. <\/p>\n

At a meeting Wednesday night, officials decided to contact law firms to act as a third party in developing a new complaint structure for the district.<\/p>\n
