CORAL GABLES, Fla. \u2013 The Wake Forest volleyball team (6-8, 0-3 ACC) battled Miami (4-8, 2-1 ACC) in its first ACC road contest of the season, falling by a final score of 3-1 on Friday night at Freeman Indoor Stadium.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Amina N’Diaye<\/a> led the Demon Deacons offensively as she totaled 11 kills against the Hurricanes. N’Diaye, who transferred from Miami to Wake Forest, also added five digs, two blocks and an assist.<\/p>\n

Graduate student Ryleigh Whitekettle<\/a> also reached double-digit kills, finishing the match with 11 kills while maintaining a .389 attacking percentage. Whitekettle also logged a pair of blocks and a dig on Friday.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, freshman Lyla Stewart<\/a> tallied nine kills and eight assists, while junior Becca Bellows<\/a> led the team with 24 assists.<\/p>\n

Senior Andrea Roman<\/a> led the Deacs defensively as she recorded a team-high 15 digs on Friday. Roman also notched three assists and a service ace.<\/p>\n

The Humacao, Puerto Rico, native has been a force defensively this season, having totaled 238 digs this season, which leads the ACC. Additionally, her 3.84 digs per set is tied for fourth in the conference.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Demon Deacons capitalized on an attacking error to grab the first point in the first set.
\n\tWake Forest pushed its lead to 6-3 following a pair of kills by sophomore Amina N’Diaye<\/a> and a service ace by redshirt senior Sanaa Williams<\/a>.
\n\tAfter Miami tied the match, the Deacs reclaimed a two-point lead on another kill by N’Diaye.
\n\tThe Hurricanes went on another long run before senior Andrea Roman<\/a> notched an ace to cut the deficit to 12-11.
\n\tWilliams added another ace to move the Deacs within two.
\n\tMiami took the first set, 25-17.
\n\tThe Deacs jumped out to a 3-1 lead to open the second set.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tN’Diaye tallied another kill to make it 10-7.
\n\tThe Deacs grabbed a five-point lead heading into the technical timeout.
\n\t
\n\t\tN’Diaye recorded her seventh kill of the match to make it 13-10.
\n\t\tHawkins added a kill before combining on a block with Whitekettle to push the lead to five points.

\n\tFreshman Lyla Stewart<\/a> recorded a pair of kills in quick succession to give the Demon Deacons a 17-12 lead.
\n\tMiami went on a six-point surge to take the lead.
\n\tWake Forest responded with a three-point swing to reclaim a 24-23 lead.

\n\t\tStewart and Williams combined on a block to give the Deacs the lead.

\n\tThe Hurricanes took the second set, 27-25.
\n\tWake Forest came out firing in the third set as it jumped out to a 10-2 lead.

\n\t\tWhitekettle logged three kills and a block during the surge, while freshman Emma Keeping<\/a> ended the run with a service ace and a kill.
\n\t
\n\t
\n\tStewart and sophomore Sadie Poeck<\/a> tallied back-to-back kills to push the lead to nine points.
\n\tAfter a short run by the Hurricanes, the Deacs capitalized on a pair of errors to make it 20-14.
\n\tN’Diaye and redshirt junior Catherine Burke<\/a> combined on a block before Bellows added a service ace to push the lead to seven points.
\n\tWhitekettle hammered home her sixth kill of the set to fight off a late Miami comeback and give Wake Forest the third set, 25-22.
\n\tThe two sides traded points early in the fourth set.
\n\tThe Hurricanes scored 15 of the next 16 points.
\n\tWake Forest went on a three-point spurt to cut the deficit to 18-9.
\n\tMiami took the fourth set, 25-15. <\/p>\n

\n\tSenior Andrea Roman<\/a> tallied 15 digs against the Hurricanes, bringing her season total to 238 digs.

\n“It’s always tough on the road. It forces you to play more consistent. Tonight, we showed great signs of how we are capable of playing, but we just couldn’t put it together consistently. We haven’t been on the road in a while, but this is what it’s like, especially in the ACC. We have to bring a better consistent match all around on Sunday against Florida State.”<\/p>\n
