NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A community gathered to remember the life of a 10-year-old lost in a hit-and-run incident in Northwest Miami-Dade. <\/p>\n
The memorial at Gwen Cherry Park was held Friday evening for loved ones to say their final goodbyes to Peyton Williams, who will be laid to rest this weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just numb, it\u2019s a numb situation because it\u2019s unbelievable, but you know, God give life and he take life, he give angels and he take angels,\u201d said Javon Wiggins, Williams\u2019 cousin.<\/p>\n
Attendees recalled Williams\u2019 smile as one that could light up a room. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe always wanted to dance and was just so cheerful and she did not deserve that,\u201d said an attendee. <\/p>\n
Williams and her brother, Willbrent Bain, were riding an e-bike at NW 7th Avenue and 117th Street on the night of Sept. 9 when they were hit<\/a>.<\/p>\n Williams passed away from injuries, and her 15-year-old brother was critically hurt.<\/p>\n \u201cEverybody is hurting right now, it\u2019s bad and it\u2019s sad, but it\u2019s a celebration of life,\u201d said Wiggins. \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s in the Bible.\u201d<\/p>\n Bain is now out of the hospital, recovering while surrounded by family.<\/p>\n According to an arrest report, surveillance footage of the crash was taken from just down the street, showing the driver getting out of his car, walking around the vehicle assessing the damage, re-entering his vehicle then fleeing.<\/p>\n Three days after the crash, investigators tracked the car down<\/a> to the home of 33-year-old Arick Metayer.<\/p>\n Cell phone records led detectives to an auto parts yard in Davie, where they say Metayer allegedly bought new doors to replace the ones damaged in the impact.<\/p>\n
