DeAnthony Lafayette<\/a> has found his home. The four-star edge rusher from Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona<\/a> has committed to Miami<\/a>, choosing the Hurricanes over Florida State<\/a> after previously being pledged to LSU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The No. 41 EDGE in the 2026 class, Lafayette initially committed to LSU over Oklahoma<\/a> in July but reopened his recruitment after Brian Kelly<\/a>\u2019s departure. Once that happened, Miami quickly surged to the top of his list.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was back there this weekend, and I\u2019ve known I was going to Miami for a little bit now,\u201d Lafayette told Rivals. \u201cI chose Miami over Florida State after the change at LSU.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lafayette pointed to Miami\u2019s defensive staff, especially defensive line coach Jason Taylor<\/a>, as the biggest reason for his commitment.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Taylor was a big part of my decision. He\u2019s one of the best coaches in the country. Look at what he\u2019s doing with players at Miami \u2014 he\u2019s a great coach who can really develop players.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Hetherman is a great defensive coordinator,\u201d Lafayette added. \u201cI like his scheme and he was part of my decision. Coach Cristobal is a great coach as well. A lot of the coaches were recruiting me; they\u2019re very personable, and that really stood out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miami\u2019s approach made a lasting impression throughout the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey stayed consistent. The staff at Miami kept recruiting me and kept making me feel important. They were very real with me through everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lafayette, who has now visited Coral Gables three times, said his most recent trip for the Syracuse<\/a> game only reaffirmed what he already knew.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew before this visit it was going to be Miami. I stayed patient with LSU, and the coaches were real with me, so I made the best decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

With his commitment complete, Lafayette plans to sign in December and enroll early in January.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really like Miami\u2019s defensive style,\u201d Lafayette said. \u201cBeing coached by Coach Taylor was another key reason I chose them. The opportunity to be developed was another one.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Cristobal is working hard to get Miami back to the top, and I 100% believe he will do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
