CORAL GABLES, Fla.\u00a0\u2013 The Ohio swim and dive program opened the 2026-27 season on Friday (Oct. 2) with a tri-meet against North Florida and Miami. The Bobcats defeated North Florida, 221.00-72.00 and fell to Miami,193.00-106.00.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Bobcats opened the event with the 200-medley relay, where the team of senior\u00a0Melanie Schweikert<\/a>, freshman\u00a0Molly Gonzalez<\/a>, sophomore\u00a0Jana Macik<\/a>\u00a0and senior\u00a0Katie Buroker<\/a>\u00a0placed third with a time of 1:46.93.<\/p>\n

In the 1,000 free, freshman\u00a0Josie Marino<\/a>\u00a0placed fourth with a time of 10:25.64.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the 200 free, junior\u00a0Ashlyn Morr<\/a>\u00a0placed fourth in 1:52.76, followed by sophomore\u00a0Katrina Kollin<\/a>\u00a0in fifth (1:53.53) and junior\u00a0Juliana Slaninka<\/a>\u00a0in sixth (1:55.26).<\/p>\n

Freeman placed fourth in the 100 back, touching in with a time of 57.16, while sophomore\u00a0Lily Baumgartner<\/a>\u00a0finished fifth (57.47) and Schweikert placed sixth with a time of 57.88.<\/p>\n

Junior\u00a0Juliette Daigneault<\/a>\u00a0capped off the 100-yard breaststroke with a third-place finish and a time of 1:04.78. Gonzalez finished fifth with a time of 1:07.47, while senior\u00a0Katie Forbes<\/a>\u00a0finished sixth in 1:07.52.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the 200 fly, Macik placed third with a time of 2:04.05.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Bobcats took the top two spots in the 50 free, with senior\u00a0Zita Szoke<\/a>\u00a0placing first in 22.92, followed by sophomore\u00a0Tori Wittenberg<\/a>\u00a0in second with a time 23.93.<\/p>\n

In the 100 free, Daigneault placed second with a time of 51.90, followed by Buroker in third (52.10) and Morr in fourth (52.29). Then in the 200 back, Baumgartner placed second, touching in with a time of 2:01.43. Freeman picked up a third-place finish in the event with a time of 2:02.58, while Slaninka finished in fourth (2:02.68).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gonzalez finished third in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.37, while sophomore\u00a0Reese Benton<\/a>\u00a0finished fifth with a time of 2:26.14. Marino placed third in the 500 free, touching in with a time of 5:02.79.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Szoke was back in action in the 100 fly, placing first with a time of 54.40, while junior\u00a0Jordan Claypoole<\/a>\u00a0finished third in 56.32.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the 200 IM, Daigneault picked up a third-place finish, recording a time of 2:06.34.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The final event of the evening was the 400 free relay, where the Bobcats’ ‘A’ team of Szoke, Buroker, Morr and Daigneault finished first with a time of 3:26.51.<\/p>\n

In diving, senior\u00a0Astrid Pichardo<\/a>\u00a0opened her season on fire, securing NCAA Zone cuts in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Pichardo placed third in both, scoring 278.63 in the 1-meter and 315.90 in the 3-meter. Freshman\u00a0Maggie Strange<\/a>\u00a0placed fourth in the 1-meter with a score of 267.30, also securing her NCAA Zone Cut. Strange also earned a fourth-place finish in the 3-meter dive, earning a score of 240.08.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3, for more events against Miami and North Florida. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.
