(WCTV) – Rounds of heavy rain today and tomorrow could lead to localized flooding.

Flood Watch: Most of the Big Bend and South Georgia are under a flood watch because of the risk of heavy rain today and Monday. Rain totals between 2 and 6 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible.

Pretty close to a washout through tomorrow

Some showers and storms are already on the radar this morning. Rain will increase in coverage late morning through the afternoon.

While this morning showers will be hit or miss, rain looks more persistent later today and through the evening and overnight. Skies stay mostly cloudy in between showers, which will keep highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Rain continues next week

Still a decent coverage of showers on Tuesday. However, it does not look like an all-day rain on Tuesday. The front finally dips south of the area, which will help to crank up the winds. The northeast breeze will bring in less humid air to the area and lower rain chances on Wednesday and Thursday. Gusts up to 20 mph through Thursday.

Morning lows in the 60s. Highs back into the low 80s.

Another weekend round of rain

Showers and storms return to the area on Friday and Saturday as the front that is bringing us the wet weather today lifts back north into the region.

Additionally, low pressure to our west will lift tropical moisture back into the area, which will also bring back the warm and humid conditions.

Beach and boating

Rip currents will be dangerous this weekend. So swimming is not advised. You will likely see red flags through early next week. Additionally, showers and storms will lead to rough waters and higher waves.

Water temperature: 82

Sunday: Showers and storms likely. Southeast winds 5 to 15 knots. Light to moderate chop in the bays and protected waters. Seas 2 to 3 feet.

Monday: Showers and storms likely. Southeast winds 5 to 10 knots. Light chop in the bays and protected waters. Seas 2 to 3 feet.

Tuesday: Scattered showers and storms. East winds 15 to 25 knots. Choppy in the bays and protected waters. Seas 2 to 4 feet.

Conditions will remain choppy through Thursday, with a high rip current risk.

Tracking the tropics

An area of interest over the Bay of Campeche. Right now, the National Hurricane Center has a low (30% chance) of tropical development over the next 7 days. It would likely be sooner than that if it does develop.

Computers models are going to struggle with the exact strength and location of a tropical system until a surface low develops. However, I am confident a low pressure system will develop and lead to higher coverage of showers and storms along the Gulf Coast and rough boating conditions late this week.

Either way, the worry meter is extremely low.
