Island Coast High School freshman hospitalized after eating THC-laced brownie<\/p>\n

A 14-year-old freshman at Island Coast High School was hospitalized after eating a brownie laced with THC, which she says she unknowingly consumed during a normal school day.<\/p>\n

A 14-year-old freshman at Island Coast High School was hospitalized after eating a brownie laced with THC, which she says she unknowingly consumed during a normal school day. <\/p>\n

“I was totally confused. I didn’t know what I had taken. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I was literally asking in the hospital because I was like, am I going to die? Like, is there something wrong with me?” Jazzlyn Hampton said. <\/p>\n

Hampton said she was offered what she thought was a regular brownie but quickly became ill, experiencing symptoms such as fading in and out of consciousness, vomiting, and later waking up in a hospital bed with no memory of what had happened. <\/p>\n

Her father, Corey Hampton, described his emotional reaction upon learning his daughter was hospitalized. <\/p>\n

“You hear these stories all the time where kids get in the back of an ambulance, or people get in the back, and they die on the way to the hospital. So my emotions were everywhere,” Corey Hampton said. <\/p>\n

Corey Hampton also expressed frustration over his daughter’s two-day suspension for marijuana use following the incident. <\/p>\n

The Lee County School District enforces a zero-tolerance policy for drugs, as outlined in its student handbook. A district spokesperson confirmed that Jazzlyn and two other students involved in the incident were all suspended. <\/p>\n

After being informed of the policy, Jazzlyn Hampton reaffirmed that she did not know the brownie was laced. <\/p>\n

“Not at all. I did not know. I don’t, I’m not bold enough to do that. I wouldn’t even do that at home. My dad doesn’t play about that. I don’t play about that, and my family doesn’t. I’m not involved with anybody that does drugs,” she said. <\/p>\n

Corey Hampton said he plans to press charges against the student who brought the brownies to school.<\/p>\n
