{"id":418797,"date":"2026-10-04T23:50:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T23:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/418797\/"},"modified":"2026-10-04T23:50:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T23:50:08","slug":"hurricane-center-increases-odds-gulf-system-could-develop-orlando-sentinel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/418797\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane center increases odds Gulf system could develop \u2013 Orlando Sentinel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Hurricane Center on Sunday continued to track a system forming in the Gulf that could develop into the season\u2019s next tropical depression or storm.<\/p>\n<p>As of the NHC\u2019s 2 p.m. tropical outlook, the broad area of low pressure was forecast to form by the middle of the week in the southwestern Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough environmental conditions are only expected to be marginally conducive, some slow development is possible and a tropical depression could form late this week while the system drifts northward,\u201d forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p>The NHC gave it a 40% chance to develop in the next seven days. That\u2019s up from 30% forecast earlier Sunday. The NHC began tracking it Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>If it were to spin up into a named system, it could become Tropical Storm Isaias.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">8 am EDT Oct 4 \u2013 A broad area of low pressure could form in a few days over the  southwestern Gulf of America. For updates, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GrztW6mQJV\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/GrztW6mQJV<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SbgMAEoTES\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/SbgMAEoTES<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 National Hurricane Center (@NHC_Atlantic) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NHC_Atlantic\/status\/2106713213651845626?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">October 4, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hurricane season has seen the formation of tropical storms Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo and Hanna.<\/p>\n<p>None has developed into a hurricane in the Atlantic this year, though, by Oct. 1 \u2014 a first since satellite tracking began in 1966.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane season began June 1 and runs through Nov. 30, but the height of hurricane season runs from mid-August through mid-October.<\/p>\n<p>The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in August had updated its seasonal forecast to expect between seven and 13 named storms this year. Of those, two to six would become hurricanes.
