Sanford shooting survivor returns home after nearly 2 weeks in hospital<\/p>\n

A 26-year-old woman critically injured in a shooting near 10th Street and Poplar Avenue is recovering at home after spending about a week in intensive care and another week in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Shakira Brundidge said she remembers going to a celebration of life Sept. 19 but recalls little about the shooting or how she was injured.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t remember anything,\u201d Brundidge said. \u201cI guess that\u2019s the goodness of all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brundidge said she learned details about the shooting by watching a video on Facebook after waking up in the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt don\u2019t seem real,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Brundidge was one of two people critically injured in the shooting. Six others were also taken to a hospital. Investigators placed at least 43 evidence markers outside the home as they worked to determine what happened.<\/p>\n

Brundidge said she suffered several gunshot wounds, including injuries to her face and shoulder. She was released from the hospital about a week after the shooting.<\/p>\n

“I’m actually in college, so I’m gonna go back to school. Everything’s gonna be the same. I’m just gonna go, like everything’s going to be the same. Just on a little hold right now, but the only hold is this shoulder. Everything else, I’m fine,” she said. <\/p>\n

Now, she plans to resume her college coursework. Brundidge said she has about two months remaining before completing a medical assistant program.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be better soon,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ll be back soon. I\u2019ll definitely be back. Won\u2019t be long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanford police reported no new developments in the investigation as of Sunday. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact law enforcement. Crimeline is offering a reward of up to $5,000.<\/p>\n

The family has set up an online fundraiser<\/a> to help cover unexpected medical costs.<\/p>\n
