Construction walls, demolition, and other changes have only fueled speculation that Universal has much bigger plans for the area.

Credit: Universal

Pokémon remains the name attached most heavily to those rumors.

Now, we’ve reached October 2026, and Universal still isn’t saying what’s happening.

That silence has become increasingly interesting because Universal has already made several moves that point toward a major transformation. Lost Continent opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999, meaning Universal could soon replace an original piece of the park after 27 years.

Universal Has Already Started Changing Lost Continent

Lost Continent doesn’t look anything like it did when Islands of Adventure opened.

The land originally offered several attractions and elaborate environments built around mythology rather than an established movie or television franchise. Over the years, however, Universal gradually stripped away many of those experiences.

The biggest blow came when Poseidon’s Fury permanently closed in 2023. The walkthrough attraction had operated since Islands of Adventure’s opening year, although Universal substantially changed the experience during its lifetime.

Its closure left Lost Continent without its biggest attraction.

Since then, attention has shifted toward what Universal might eventually do with the remaining space.

Construction walls and demolition activity have become increasingly difficult to ignore. Work around the former Sinbad stunt theater has provided another visible indication that Universal isn’t simply leaving the area untouched.

And that brings us to the biggest question hanging over Islands of Adventure.

Is Pokémon Finally Coming to Universal Orlando?

Pokémon has become the leading rumor surrounding Lost Continent.

Universal Destinations & Experiences previously announced a global partnership with The Pokémon Company, immediately increasing speculation about what that relationship could eventually mean for Universal’s theme parks.

Lost Continent has emerged as the most discussed potential Orlando location.

The area sits between Seuss Landing and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, giving Universal a valuable piece of real estate inside one of its busiest theme parks.

Reports have suggested that the complete Lost Continent footprint covers roughly eight acres, potentially providing enough space for attractions, restaurants, retail, and themed environments.

However, there’s an important distinction guests should keep in mind.

Universal has not officially announced a Pokémon land for Islands of Adventure.

That’s still true in October.

Credit: The Pokemon Company
The Rumors Have Become Much More Specific

The lack of an announcement hasn’t stopped potential details from circulating.

One of the most interesting rumors involves an Omnimover-style dark ride inspired by Pokémon Snap. Such an attraction could take guests through Pokémon environments while potentially incorporating interactive elements.

A family-friendly roller coaster has also been rumored.

That combination would make sense for a franchise with such broad appeal. Rather than building another land dominated by extreme thrill rides, Universal could use Pokémon to create something accessible to children while still attracting adults who grew up playing the games, collecting cards, and watching the franchise.

But those ride concepts remain rumors.

Universal hasn’t announced an attraction lineup, opening date, construction timeline, or even officially said Pokémon will replace Lost Continent.

That’s particularly notable considering how much has already happened around the land.

October Arrives Without the Announcement Fans Are Waiting For

This is where the Lost Continent situation gets especially interesting.

Universal has made physical moves. The area has changed. Construction and demolition have provided guests with something tangible to watch.

Yet October 2026 has arrived without the announcement that would explain where all of this is heading.

For now, guests essentially have two different stories unfolding simultaneously.

There’s the official story, where Universal has not announced a replacement for Lost Continent.

Then there’s what guests can actually see happening inside Islands of Adventure.

Those visible changes don’t confirm Pokémon. Construction alone isn’t enough to establish what Universal eventually plans to build, and rumors surrounding specific attractions should remain firmly in the rumor category until the company says otherwise.

Still, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to view Lost Continent as a land with a long-term future in its existing form.

Islands of Adventure Is Moving Away From Its Original Identity

Replacing Lost Continent will carry some historical significance for Islands of Adventure.

When the park opened in 1999, Lost Continent was one of its original lands and represented an era when Universal was willing to build elaborate environments without attaching everything to a massive existing entertainment property.

That approach has changed considerably.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter eventually transformed part of the original Lost Continent footprint, while Universal has increasingly leaned toward recognizable franchises for major expansions.

Lost Continent has survived in a reduced form, but its identity has become increasingly difficult to maintain as attractions disappeared.

A Pokémon replacement would effectively complete that transition.

It would also give Islands of Adventure another enormous franchise at a time when Universal Orlando has entered a new era following the May 2025 opening of Epic Universe.

Credit: Universal Orlando
Universal Doesn’t Have to Rush

There’s another reason Universal may be willing to keep fans waiting.

Epic Universe is already open.

Universal spent years preparing for the new theme park, and its debut fundamentally expanded Universal Orlando Resort. The company doesn’t necessarily need to immediately reveal every project planned for its existing parks.

That could give Universal room to prepare Lost Continent’s replacement before launching the marketing campaign surrounding it.

The physical work can continue while Universal controls when and how it reveals what’s coming.

For guests, however, that creates an unusual period where the evidence of change is much easier to find than official answers.

Earlier this year, much of the visible activity remained focused on demolition and infrastructure preparation, with Universal offering no official timeline or opening window for whatever follows.

Months later, the biggest part of that story hasn’t changed.

After 27 Years, Lost Continent’s Future Looks Bleak

Universal may not have announced the death of Lost Continent, but the land’s transformation has been happening piece by piece.

Poseidon’s Fury is gone. The former Sinbad area has faced demolition activity. Construction walls have spread through portions of the land. And rumors about Pokémon continue hanging over everything Universal does there.

None of that means guests should start planning a Pokémon vacation to Orlando just yet.

Until Universal makes an announcement, the project’s theme, attractions, timeline, and opening date remain uncertain.

But after 27 years, Lost Continent increasingly feels like a piece of Islands of Adventure’s past rather than its future.

Universal has made its moves.

Now, as October continues without an official announcement, everyone is waiting for the company to finally tell us what those moves mean.

Get daily updates from Inside the Magic

I’d like to receive emails from Inside the Magic.

Universal Orlando Resort appears ready to move on from one of the last pieces of the original Islands…

[11
139,141,140
post-420011","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-orlando","tag-orlando","tag-orlando-headlines","tag-orlando-news
["GET
