The case resurfaced after Police Encounters TV shared bodycam footage of the arrest on YouTube<\/a> on Sunday, September 27. The video shows deputies approaching McDonnell inside an office building and trying to keep the arrest discreet.<\/p>\n One deputy tells her they can move somewhere more private so she is not embarrassed in front of coworkers. McDonnell asked about her children and told deputies one of her sons was home sick.<\/p>\n Deputies let her make calls before leaving. “I need you to leave work and go home like, right now,” she told her husband. “The sheriff’s office is here and they’re arresting me.”<\/p>\n Police Encounters TV\/Youtube<\/p>\n McDonnell added that it involved “theft at Target for self checkout.”<\/p>\n She also asked whether being arrested for a felony meant she was already a felon.<\/p>\n A deputy told her she was being arrested on probable cause and had not been convicted.<\/p>\n Target loss-prevention staff noticed the self-checkout activity and contacted detectives, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives reviewed store surveillance as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n Authorities said McDonnell paid for some merchandise during the visits but left with other items that were not scanned.<\/p>\n ABC affiliate Gulf Coast News<\/a> reported in February 2025 that she is accused of taking 151 items worth $3,472.02 between November 30, 2024, and February 2, 2025.<\/p>\n Police Encounters TV\/Youtube<\/p>\n The sheriff’s office said the allegedly stolen merchandise ranged from everyday items, including a $2.19 bottle of Dr. Pepper and a $5.60 box of mechanical pencils, to a $54.42 throw pillow and a $795 mattress.<\/p>\n Florida law classifies theft of property worth at least $750 but less than $5,000 as third-degree grand theft, according to the Florida Senate<\/a>.<\/p>\n The bodycam footage shows the arrest, not the alleged thefts.<\/p>\n According to Guessing Headlights<\/a>, McDonnell was arrested on February 12, 2025, on the grand theft charge and released on bond that day.
