{"id":420393,"date":"2026-10-06T17:24:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T17:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/420393\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T17:24:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T17:24:09","slug":"will-gulf-system-become-tropical-storm-isias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/420393\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Gulf system become Tropical Storm Isias?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While it\u2019s still early to forecast, experts said Tuesday that there\u2019s potential for a tropical storm or even a Category 1 hurricane to form this week in the Gulf that could drench an area from eastern Louisiana to Florida\u2019s Big Bend.<\/p>\n<p>The season\u2019s next named storm or hurricane, Isias, could form from a rapidly organizing trough of low pressure currently located near Mexico in the Gulf.<\/p>\n<p>AccuWeather said Tuesday that it expects the Gulf system to become \u201cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/hurricane\/tropical-rainstorm-in-gulf-likely-to-become-atlantics-first-hurricane-before-striking-us\/1942566\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first hurricane<\/a> in the Atlantic this season, and possibly the latest first-hurricane on record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe storm is already becoming better organized faster than expected, and the environment around it is becoming increasingly favorable for strengthening,\u201d said AccuWeather hurricane expert Nicholas Arman. \u201cThe warm waters in the Gulf will provide plenty of fuel, and winds high in the atmosphere are lining up in a way that could help the storm strengthen more efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Initially given a 20% chance of development within the next seven days by the National Hurricane Center on Sunday, by early Tuesday its odds had spiked to 90% within two to seven days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems like a significant rainstorm will precede a potential tropical storm or hurricane impact this weekend on the Gulf Coast, somewhere east of central Louisiana,\u201d wrote Houston-based meteorologist Matt Lanza on his <a href=\"https:\/\/theeyewall.com\/it-only-takes-one-watching-the-gulf-for-increasing-chances-of-legitimate-tropical-development\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eyewall<\/a> blog.<\/p>\n<p>Though prediction models vary widely at this point, Lanza on Tuesday cited Google\u2019s model guidance of \u201ca 30 percent chance of a hurricane, or perhaps a 5 percent chance of a major hurricane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AccuWeather on Tuesday estimated rain totals of up to 8 inches could drench a swath from Alabama to the Florida Panhandle, an area that has recently seen a lot of rain, increasing the potential for flooding. AccuWeather is calling for 8-12 inches of rain across southern Alabama and Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>So far in the Atlantic this season, no hurricanes have formed.
