Cape Coral city leaders are considering shifting funds within an FDOT grant to address funding shortfalls for a new sidewalk project.<\/p>\n

Cape Coral city leaders are considering a change to an FDOT grant to ensure funding is properly allocated for a new sidewalk project.<\/p>\n

The project would add a five-foot-wide sidewalk to parts of Santa Barbara Place and Southwest 20th Street, with the goal of connecting it to an existing sidewalk near Santa Barbara Boulevard. <\/p>\n

FDOT has committed nearly $872,000 to the project, with $759,000 allocated for construction and $113,800 set aside for construction engineering and inspection (CEI). <\/p>\n

City staff said the current allocation for CEI is insufficient to meet the project\u2019s needs. To address this, the city is proposing to shift $170,000 from the construction budget to CEI. <\/p>\n

This adjustment would reduce the construction allocation to approximately $589,000 while increasing CEI funding to nearly $284,000. <\/p>\n

The total grant amount would remain the same, but the city explained that FDOT reimburses costs based on the approved amounts in each category. Without the adjustment, the city could have to cover the shortfall itself. <\/p>\n

The council will discuss the proposal at 4 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n
