Shumaker Advisors Florida helped secure $350,000 for CareerSource Tampa Bay’s Veterans for Job Project Recovery program, which helps veterans and their families reach economic stability.

The funding was secured in the 2026 Legislative Session and is appropriated for the state’s 2026-27 fiscal year budget. It will go toward employment training, employment assistance and various support services for veterans, service members transitioning to civilian life and eligible military spouses in both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Shumaker Advisors Florida Executive Vice President and Principal Alan Suskey and Vice President Jim Taylor were part of the team working with stakeholders to advance the funding request. Sen. Nick DiCeglie and Rep. Berny Jacques sponsored the appropriations request in the Senate and House, respectively.

The Job Project Recovery program helps veterans facing significant barriers to employment, including homelessness, economic hardship, disability, and other challenges. Now, the program also prioritizes veterans and military families facing housing challenges related to the 2024 hurricanes that brought extensive flooding and wind damage to the Tampa Bay area.

“Veterans have given so much in service to our country and helping them find meaningful employment is one of the most direct ways we can support their transition to the next chapter,” Suskey said. “Not only will this funding provide veterans and their families with job training, but it will also help remove practical barriers that can stand between someone and a stable career.”

""

Added Taylor: “Workforce development is a critical component of long-term recovery, particularly for veterans and military families who may be facing multiple challenges at once. We are proud to have helped bring this investment to the Tampa Bay community and support a program focused on creating real economic opportunity.”

The program helps veterans and other qualifying military personnel and their spouses receive job training and education, including certain qualifying industry certifications; identify work-based learning opportunities; obtain career coaching; access transportation assistance and childcare stipends; access supportive services for those transitioning into the workforce; and receive help getting a job, retaining a job or earning a promotion or pay increase.

CareerSource Tampa Bay is able to measure the program’s impact through employment data, wage rates, job titles, earned credentials and other information tracked through the State of Florida’s Employ Florida system.

With support from organizations including Pinellas County Economic Development, the Hillsborough County Commission, Abe Brown Ministries, Empact Solutions and The Bank of Tampa, the program represents an investment not only in veterans and their families, but also in the broader Tampa Bay workforce and economy by helping individuals secure sustainable employment and achieve greater economic self-sufficiency.

Shumaker Advisors Florida helped secure $350,000 for CareerSource Tampa Bay’s Veterans for Job Project Recovery program, which helps…

[10
106458,3345,166338,159814,166339,19351,66300,135,137,136
post-421433","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tampa","tag-alan-suskey","tag-berny-jacques","tag-careersource-tampa-bay","tag-jim-taylor","tag-job-project-recovery","tag-nick-diceglie","tag-shumaker-advisors","tag-tampa","tag-tampa-headlines","tag-tampa-news
["GET
