Nearly four months later, Officer George Isabel was charged with reckless driving.

Dash camera video obtained exclusively by NBC6 captured the moment of impact. The video, as released, includes a blurred box covering Scott at the time of the collision.

Body camera video also captures witnesses and officers reacting immediately after the crash.

“I don’t know where the [expletive] he came out of,” someone can be heard saying.

“Is he alive?” an officer asks.

“I don’t know. I don’t know,” Isabel responds.

As first responders rushed toward Scott, Isabel and witnesses could be heard trying to make sense of what had happened.

“An ambulance is coming here. Did you see everything that happened though, him coming out?” Isabel asks.

“Yeah,” the witness responds.

“You guys saw him come out?” Isabel asks.

“Yeah,” the witness says.

“So just stay here, obviously we are just going to need witnesses. I was the one driving,” Isabel says.

Scott later died from his injuries.

The family of a man who was killed while on his e-bike in Coral Springs is speaking out. NBC6’s Lena Salzbank reports

An arrest affidavit is now shedding new light on how fast investigators say Isabel was driving before the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators said Isabel was traveling between 71 and 92 mph at times on a road where the speed limit is 35 mph.

In the hours after the crash, multiple witnesses told NBC6 they saw the police SUV speeding.

“For such a well-lit area, it’s just hard for me to understand how exactly he collided with the Tahoe if the Tahoe wasn’t going an exceptional speed. A light right where it happened. A streetlight right where it happened,” one neighbor said back in April.

According to the affidavit, Isabel was heading toward the area of a vehicle police were looking for.

A Coral Springs detective told investigators a tracker on that vehicle had become active. That information was passed along to Isabel so he could drive to the area.

A witness told investigators Isabel did not have his emergency lights or sirens activated.

Investigators said Isabel was driving at a “high rate of speed” and that “a collision could not be avoided.”

Scott’s wife told NBC6 days after the crash that safety was always top of mind for her husband.

“Boom, my husband went in the bike. His bike was a strong and heavy electric bike,” Lyane Mendoca said.

Investigators said Scott was wearing a helmet with a blinking red light that night.

FHP found probable cause to charge Isabel with felony vehicular homicide. The Broward State Attorney’s Office ultimately decided to pursue a lesser charge of misdemeanor reckless driving.

In a memo sent to NBC6, prosecutors said video, witness statements and physical evidence showed Isabel was driving recklessly.

However, prosecutors said in the memo Isabel “was not determined to be the sole cause of the crash” because Scott “should not have made the turn onto the roadway when he did.”

Following a Monday morning hearing in Broward County court, NBC6 spoke with Isabel’s defense attorney, Joshua Rydell.

“It’s a tragedy. When someone loses their life, it’s a tragedy,” Rydell said.

Rydell pointed to an initial crash report estimating Isabel was traveling 55 mph, slower than the speeds investigators ultimately determined.

“So it’s a little inconsistent in terms of what FHP has put out in regarding their investigation of this case,” Rydell said.

Rydell said Isabel is innocent of the reckless driving charge.

“Officer Isabel has spent his entire career focused on protecting the community, and we firmly believe when all the facts and circumstances come out, he’s going to be exonerated of this offense,” Rydell said.

The Coral Springs Police Department told NBC6 they’re aware of the charge and the officer is currently on restrictive assignment.

We reached out to the family’s attorney and are still waiting to hear back.

Newly released video shows the moment a man riding an electric scooter collided with a marked Coral Springs…

[17
249,251,250,2033
post-421569","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","tag-fort-lauderdale-news","tag-only-on-6
["GET
