{"id":421641,"date":"2026-10-07T22:51:43","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T22:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/421641\/"},"modified":"2026-10-07T22:51:43","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T22:51:43","slug":"dredging-begins-at-st-petersburg-coast-guard-basin-in-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/421641\/","title":{"rendered":"Dredging begins at St Petersburg coast guard basin in Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US Army Corps of Engineers\u2019 (USACE) Jacksonville District has begun mechanically dredging the US Coast Guard boat basin in St Petersburg, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The work aims to remove sediment restricting vessel movements, particularly at low tide. It will prepare the facility for a new inland construction tender (WLIC) under the coast guard\u2019s waterways commerce cutter (WCC) programme.<\/p>\n<p>The WLIC will replace the construction tender USCGC Vise and have a significantly greater draught, according to Captain Courtney Sergent, commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector St Petersburg.<\/p>\n<p>The dredging will also give larger coast guard vessels access to the station\u2019s southern seawall and allow them to berth nearer the federal channel.
