With their 4-3 loss on Wednesday evening, the New York Yankees<\/a> have been eliminated from the MLB playoffs.<\/p>\n ESPN\u2019s Jeff Passan wrote (on X.com)<\/a> quickly after the loss:<\/p>\n \u201cFINAL: Rays 4, Yankees 3\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe best team in the league finishes the sweep and heads to the ALCS. A game-tying Anthony Volpe<\/a> home run was overturned because of fan interference, and the Rays held their one-run lead for the final 10 outs. Younger fans have only known this since 2017, but it\u2019s almost two decades of mediocrity that could have been longer if Alex Rodriguez hadn\u2019t gone nuts in 2009. Even with a lockout coming, if Hal really gave a crap he would clean house.\u201d<\/p>\n This series is going to sting for a while for New York Yankees fans.<\/p>\n Speaking to the Tampa Bay Rays very quickly, you have to give them credit for being the wire-to-wire best team in the American League since Opening Day, even when nobody predicted them to finish *even top 3 in the division*.<\/p>\n They are clearly playing with a chip on their shoulder, and it showed against the Yankees over the past week. Tampa Bay was more clutch, pitched better, got more timely hits, and played MUCH better defense. Kudos to them, and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the ALCS against either the Guardians or White Sox<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tTJ French<\/a> covers the MLB for Heavy.
