US<\/a> and Ukrainian delegations will meet in Miami on Friday, Oct. 9, to discuss new proposals aimed at ending Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine<\/a>, while US presidential envoys may return to Moscow later this month for further talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n

According to Axios<\/a>, citing US and Ukrainian officials, the two-day talks are expected to focus on potential ways to break the diplomatic deadlock, including a possible partial ceasefire covering attacks on energy infrastructure and grain shipments.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration is seeking a diplomatic breakthrough ahead of the US midterm elections and before the onset of harsh winter weather in Ukraine, as per the report.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are all nervous about the winter. It will be a tough winter if the war does not stop. So the US is trying to mediate with the sides, with the goal of creating a unified proposal,\u201d a US source told the outlet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ukraine, US to discuss ceasefire and security guarantees<\/p>\n

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with US President Donald Trump on Thursday to present the latest US proposal and receive his input ahead of the Miami talks, a US official told Axios.<\/p>\n

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Deputy National Security Advisor Mike Needham also attended the meeting.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian delegation<\/a> will include President Volodymyr Zelensky\u2019s Chief of Staff Kyrylo Budanov, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, Servant of the People parliamentary faction leader Davyd Arakhamia, and First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsya. Oleh Ivashchenko, head of Ukraine\u2019s Intelligence Service (HUR), will also be present.<\/p>\n

Ukraine has expressed readiness to agree to such a ceasefire<\/a>, but Russia<\/a> has shown little interest in the proposal, Axios reported.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s envoys may return to Moscow<\/p>\n

Witkoff and Kushner could travel to Moscow later in October for further talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a source familiar with the matter told Axios.<\/p>\n

The pair visited Moscow and Kyiv in early September and have since been working with Russian and Ukrainian officials on an updated peace initiative, according to the report.<\/p>\n

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday in Lisbon that the war had reached a \u201cstalemate.\u201d He said Washington wanted to prevent further escalation in the coming month and find a path toward ending the conflict.<\/p>\n
