Broward County, FL – Broward County health officials have confirmed a locally acquired case of dengue fever as Florida continues monitoring mosquito-borne illnesses across the state.

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County announced the case Monday and issued a mosquito-borne illness advisory. Officials did not release details about the person who tested positive.

A locally acquired case means the infection was contracted in the area rather than during travel outside the region.

Broward County had also recorded 20 travel-related dengue cases this year through late September.

Health officials said they are working with Broward County Mosquito Control on surveillance and prevention efforts following the newly confirmed local case.

Statewide, hundreds of dengue cases have been reported in Florida in 2026, including more than 250 locally acquired infections.

Hillsborough County has reported the highest number of locally transmitted cases, while Miami-Dade County has also recorded local infections and numerous travel-related cases.

Dengue is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. It is not typically spread directly from one person to another.

Symptoms may include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, rash and muscle or joint pain. Symptoms can develop within about two weeks after an infected mosquito bite.

Health officials recommend using insect repellent, wearing clothing that covers exposed skin and removing standing water from areas around homes where mosquitoes can breed.

Residents who develop symptoms consistent with dengue are advised to contact a health care provider.

Broward health officials said mosquito surveillance and control efforts will continue as they monitor the situation.

Broward County, FL – Broward County health officials have confirmed a locally acquired case of dengue fever as…

[17
506,1183,52634,161428,249,251,250,40279,166921,666,19148
post-423417","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-lauderdale","tag-broward-county","tag-case","tag-clothing","tag-dengue-fever-case","tag-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","tag-fort-lauderdale-news","tag-health-officials","tag-illness-advisory","tag-person","tag-symptoms
["GET
