{"id":423733,"date":"2026-10-09T22:54:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/423733\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T22:54:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:54:08","slug":"port-st-lucie-intersection-floods-so-badly-a-pizza-shop-lost-thousands-city-says-fix-will-take-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/423733\/","title":{"rendered":"Port St. Lucie intersection floods so badly a pizza shop &#8216;lost thousands&#8217;; city says fix will take time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">WPTV is continuing to follow flooding issues at the intersection of California and Savona boulevards in Port St. Lucie.<\/p>\n<p>The water has receded, but <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/facebook.com\/reel\/1397308159227352\/?s=single_unit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">earlier this week<\/a>, the intersection looked like a lake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">WATCH BELOW: Port St. Lucie flooding hits pizza shop hard as city works on fix<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">WPTV is pressing city leaders about any solution to keep the water levels down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Neighbors shared video of the roadways, looking like a river.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">&#8220;We were actually calling it the California River, as a joke,&#8221; said Joe Dascoli, who works at Estella Pizzaria right of the intersection. &#8220;It becomes like an island around here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">That island is a shopping plaza where the pizza shop is located. Due to the flooding on Thursday, Dascoli said they had to close early.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">&#8220;It&#8217;s an ongoing thing that you know should be resolved,&#8221; said Dascoli.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Dascoli told WPTV customers couldn&#8217;t go in and orders couldn&#8217;t go out during this week\u2019s flooding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve lost thousands of dollars just in revenue and people not being able to come in,&#8221; said Dascoli. &#8220;Some of our drivers, their cars aren&#8217;t capable of going through the floods, so we have to stop deliveries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">WPTV pressed the city of Port St. Lucie about any solutions to the flooding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Scott Samples with the city said it&#8217;s starting a pilot program for water level sensors at flood-prone areas in the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">&#8220;There&#8217;ll be alerts that&#8217;ll be able to go to Public Works and the police to say, &#8216;Hey, this area is seeing rapid flooding,&#8217; so they might be able to respond quicker,&#8221; said Samples.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Samples said long-term solutions include a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/experience.arcgis.com\/experience\/4697fd4c2e674220a3afb4a3cd960b14\/page\/Flood-Prevention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">large-scale drainage project<\/a> for the Oak Hammock neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The project includes two new retention ponds, baffle boxes to collect runoff, and even raising sections of the roadway at California and Savona boulevards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Right now, Samples said the project is in the data collection phase before moving on to design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">&#8220;This is one of the highest priorities that we have in terms of capital investment projects, and so it&#8217;s going to take time,&#8221; said Samples. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WPTV is continuing to follow flooding issues at the intersection of California and Savona boulevards in Port St.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":423734,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[167002,167001,12287,171,173,172],"class_list":["post-423733","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-port-st-lucie","tag-forced-his-kids-to-help-with-murder","tag-former-corrections-officer-allegedly-killed-his-wife","tag-missouri","tag-port-st-lucie","tag-port-st-lucie-headlines","tag-port-st-lucie-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/423733","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=423733"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/423733\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/423734"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=423733"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=423733"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=423733"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
