JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 Residents from Florida\u2019s panhandle streamed into Jacksonville and the First Coast seeking refuge from Hurricane Isaias, only to find the region already grappling with flooding, waterspouts and rising tides that have blocked roads and strained emergency crews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Kaylie Adams, who lives in Destin, was one of those evacuees. She said the drive to Jacksonville took a couple of extra hours because of heavy evacuee traffic on the roads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">TRACKING THE TROPICS | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/weather\/2026\/10\/09\/category-3-hurricane-isaias-heads-toward-florida-alabama-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/weather\/2026\/10\/09\/category-3-hurricane-isaias-heads-toward-florida-alabama-border\/\">Tornado Watch expires as Category 2 Hurricane Isaias makes landfall<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cOn the way here was really incredible \u2014 seeing all of the first line vehicles headed that way to help,\u201d Adams said. \u201cSo knowing that they do have help right there is comforting, at least.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">But Adams said the wait-and-watch part is harder to manage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cI think if it goes silent with everybody else, I might assume worst case scenario and be pretty worried,\u201d she said. \u201cI think it depends on how much information I\u2019m able to receive prior to the drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Northeast Florida was dealing with its own weather problems even before evacuees arrived. Along A1A in St. Augustine Beach, several cars were forced to stop after water blocked the road Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Emergency officials pointed to a combination of factors, including king tides, rain-saturated ground, and already-high river levels \u2014 all worsening as the outer bands of Hurricane Isaias pushed rainfall into the region. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Officials repeated a familiar warning: turn around, don\u2019t drown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">A viewer-submitted video from Crescent Beach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/10\/09\/waterspout-caught-on-camera-in-crescent-beach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/10\/09\/waterspout-caught-on-camera-in-crescent-beach\/\">captured a waterspout spinning over the water<\/a> earlier Friday.
