Destin is in the panhandle region of northern Florida.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NHC warned of &#8220;life-threatening storm surge impacting the Gulf Coast as dangerous hurricane conditions and flash flooding spread inland.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/extreme-weather\/t-19020379\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">weather system<\/a> is also bringing extreme winds, with a tornado watch issued for parts of Florida and southern Georgia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NHC said the hurricane has maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour (165 kilometers per hour).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The storm is the first hurricane of the Atlantic season and was originally a strong Category 3 storm before making landfall.
