FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) \u2014 A 47-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly pointing a loaded handgun at two Fort Myers police officers, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.<\/p>\n

Police said officers Cole and Calisi were patrolling near Winkler Avenue and Central Avenue around 6:35 p.m. when they spotted Kilda Chiloquin crossing the road outside a designated crosswalk.<\/p>\n

As officers attempted to approach Chiloquin, they saw him holding a handgun and chambering a live round, according to the department.<\/p>\n

Police said both officers drew their firearms and issued verbal commands before Chiloquin turned toward them and pointed the loaded handgun directly at them.<\/p>\n

After repeated commands, Chiloquin dropped the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.<\/p>\n

Officers recovered two firearms during the investigation.<\/p>\n

Police said officers observed signs of alcohol impairment and Chiloquin admitted to drinking alcohol before the encounter.<\/p>\n

Chiloquin was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on specified personnel and use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n

The Fort Myers Police Department praised the officers for resolving the encounter without firing their weapons.<\/p>\n
