Restaurants are inspected by the Department of Business & Professional Regulation.

READ MORE: Ants in honey. 115 flies. La Carreta. Miami and Broward restaurant filth

Here are some of the problems the inspectors found:

“No hot water available at the handwash sink in the female employee/customer restroom.” The inspection says Sedano’s has 30 calendar days to get hot water to that sink or the store will be in a great amount of hot water.

“Black, mold-like growth present on the ceiling of the meat department walk-in freezer.”

Also in the meat department, “Old cheese residue encrusted on the slicer blade that had just been cleaned.” Apparently, not cleaned very well.

The meat department’s three-compartment sink’s sanitizer wasn’t strong enough. Also, the “drain pipe leaks when water is turned on at the sanitize compartment.”

Another problem with that sink was the direct connection between the drain line and the sewage system. That means if the sewage system backs up, the sink could be tainted.

The tongs used to grab pastelitos, croquetas and empanadas from the hot box had been in use more than four hours without being washed, rinsed and sanitized again.

Speaking of pastelitos in the hot storage unit, they’re supposed to be kept at 135 degrees or above. Meat, cheese and ham and cheese pastelitos measured under 135 degrees. All got hit with Stop Sales. Basura.

Steamed, evaporated milk in a container next to the coffee machine measured 86 degrees, way too cool for safe warm storage and far too warm for safe cool storage (at or below 41 degrees). Stop Sale.

Out in a retail aisle’s cold unit, 20 64-ounce containers of yogurt drinks got hit with Stop Sales for measuring above 41 degrees.

            Since 1989, David J.
