<\/p>\nFlooding threat remains as the storm moves across Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley.<\/p>\n

Isaias, the ninth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, made landfall as a strong Category 2 storm around 9:30 p.m. Friday in Destin, Florida. It has weakened overnight to a post-tropical cyclone as it moved inland.<\/p>\n
Related: Hurricane Isaias forecast: Computer models and maps<\/a> <\/p>\n As of 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, Isaias was a post-tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. The system was about 50 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, moving north at 10 mph.<\/p>\n The next update is scheduled for 5 p.m.<\/p>\n “Wind gusts may increase during the day today, with weakening speeds expected tonight into Sunday,” NHC said in the update.<\/p>\n Isaias is expected to continue moving across Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley in a north-northwest direction with a turn to the northeast later Saturday and Sunday. <\/p>\n “Flash, urban, and river flooding is possible across the region, with considerable impacts, including landslides, possible across the southern Appalachians,” the NHC said. “Significant river flooding across the western Florida Panhandle will crest today through Sunday.”<\/p>\n Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches with localized maximums of 10 inches are possible across the Southern Appalachians from northeast Georgia into the western Carolinas and from the upper coast of South Carolina into eastern North Carolina, the NHC said. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches possible across the remainder of the Southeast into northern Florida.<\/p>\n A couple of tornadoes also are possible Saturday across eastern Georgia and the Carolinas.<\/p>\n Tracking Isaias<\/p>\n The previous eight storms have been tropical. NHC isn’t monioring any new systems.<\/p>\n Isaias became the latest-forming first hurricane on record in an update at 11:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday night. The previous record was set by an unnamed 1905 hurricane, which became a hurricane at 8 p.m. EDT on Oct. 7 in the Gulf.
