The Eagles (2-3) have lost three straight, and this one might have been the cruelest.

Here’s the Eagles’ report card by position group:

Quarterback: C

Jalen Hurts completed 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown without an interception. His 62-yard touchdown strike to Darius Cooper was a beauty, and he engineered a late go-ahead drive. He also got rid of the ball faster than he had been this season. But the Eagles haven’t scored a touchdown in the second half since Week 2 in Tennessee.

Running back: D

With Saquon Barkley sidelined, Will Shipley started and scored a rushing touchdown before leaving with a foot injury. Dameon Pierce managed just 14 yards on 11 carries. The Eagles’ ground game was practically nonexistent, leaving Hurts to carry the offense.

Offensive line: B

Considering the circumstances, the makeshift line deserves credit. With Lane Johnson retired, Cam Jurgens traded and two other starters injured, Jordan Mailata and Tyler Steen were the only remaining Week 1 starters. The unit struggled to open running lanes and had some shaky snaps, but generally held together against a talented Jacksonville front.

Tight end/Receiver: C+

Cooper’s 62-yard touchdown was the offensive highlight. Dallas Goedert returned from injury and caught six passes for 38 yards, including a crucial 17-yarder late. Dontayvion Wicks made some clutch catches, but the depleted receiving corps couldn’t consistently get separation.

Defensive line: A-

Jalen Carter was a wrecking ball, at least in the first half, recording two strip-sacks of Trevor Lawrence. Jordan Davis helped bottle up Jacksonville’s running backs, while Moro Ojomo generated interior pressure. The unit dominated stretches of the game despite losing Jalyx Hunt to an injury.

Linebacker: A-

Zack Baun was everywhere, leading the Eagles with 11 tackles and helping make a critical fourth-down stop near the goal line. Jihaad Campbell delivered some punishing hits. The linebackers helped keep Jacksonville’s running game largely in check despite Jeremiah Trotter Jr.’s early ejection.

Cornerback: B

Quinyon Mitchell recorded his first regular-season interception and broke up a pass in the end zone. Riq Woolen provided tight coverage, although Parker Washington made a spectacular touchdown catch against him on a perfect throw from Lawrence. Cooper DeJean contributed against the run but had some coverage lapses.

Safety: B-

Andrew Mukuba took a poor angle on Washington’s 51-yard touchdown reception, turning a short pass into six points. The secondary otherwise made enough plays to keep Philadelphia competitive. But Jacksonville still finished with 331 passing yards.

Special teams: D-

An absolute disaster when it mattered most. Jake Elliott’s late field goal gave Philadelphia a 17-16 lead with eight seconds left, but the Eagles surrendered a 53-yard kickoff return. Cam Little followed with a 57-yard game-winner. Britain Covey provided solid returns, but the final breakdown erased everything.

Coaching: C-

Nick Sirianni’s decision not to kick into the end zone after Elliott’s field goal proved catastrophic. Sean Mannion’s offense again sputtered after halftime, while Vic Fangio’s stalwart defense kept the Eagles alive though gave up a late TD. Sirianni’s undermanned team fought hard, but poor execution and questionable decisions turned a potential victory into another painful defeat.

——

Follow Christiaan DeFranco on X and Threads at @the_defranc.

The injury-depleted Eagles nearly stole a victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday but faltered late in a…

[8
116,118,117,119,10828,110,57776
post-425029","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville-headlines","tag-jacksonville-news","tag-nfl","tag-philadelphia-eagles","tag-sports","tag-top-stories-tmc
["GET
