TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers are concerned with growing traffic and safety issues along Memorial Highway in Tampa, especially at the intersection at Kelly Road.

The intersection is on a busy stretch of Memorial Highway between Hillsborough Avenue and the Veterans Expressway, where traffic backs up during the morning and afternoon rush.

Chelsie Jennings, property manager of the Memorial Office Building at the intersection, said she has watched traffic increase nearly every year since she began managing the building in 2013. She says the building has about 40 tenants, so traffic in and out can be busy every day.

“I have noticed in the morning and probably around three, four o’clock, the traffic is so bad that we end up having a lot of accidents,” Jennings said. “It’s a very dangerous intersection.”

Jennings said many of the crashes she sees happen when drivers try to turn left from Memorial Highway into the office parking lot. She said there is no left-turn lane into the building.

“A lot of people will try to pull into the intersection. They wait,” Jennings said. “Some people that aren’t paying attention, they either get rear-ended, they get pushed into another car or the post.”

Jennings said she has contacted Hillsborough County in the past about the possibility of adding a turn lane or a new traffic signal, but has not had success.

Hillsborough County said it is aware of the concerns and is currently conducting a traffic study on Memorial Highway. A study is typically the first step in determining whether changes can be made.

With traffic only getting busier, Jennings hopes something comes out of it.

“Oh, everyone in the building will tell you that this is probably the most dangerous Intersection on this road,” Jennings said.

TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers are concerned with growing traffic and safety issues along Memorial Highway in Tampa, especially…

[10
2173,2175,2178,2179,115,135,137,136,7227,729,835
post-425875","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tampa","tag-app-traffic-transit","tag-app-traffic-and-transit","tag-app-traffic-inbox","tag-inbox","tag-news","tag-tampa","tag-tampa-headlines","tag-tampa-news","tag-tim-wronka","tag-traffic","tag-vod
["GET
