Eagles (2-3) kicker Jake Elliot made it 17-16 with just eight seconds left before Ameer Abdullah and Cam Little kicked a 57-yard, game-winning field goal.

“Nobody flinched. Nobody blinked. Nobody blamed,” Jags coach Liam Coen said. “Guys stayed the course and ended up squeaking away with a win.”

Jacksonville’s victory marked the team’s second back-to-back 4-1 start in franchise history and third consecutive win this season.

Here are four takeaways from Sunday’s win:

Jaguars Respond When Adversity Strikes

It’s uncommon that a team’s long snapper goes down, but DaVon Hamilton stepped up to the challenge when his name was called. Ross Matiscik, Jacksonville’s seven-year snapper and captain, suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter, bringing in the club’s defensive tackle and backup.

Hamilton filled in for Matiscik on the special teams unit and was wildly productive in the role despite having a lack of experience. He delivered the snap to punter Logan Cooke for Little’s game-winning 57-yard field goal.

“I wasn’t nervous for that one,” Hamilton said. “It just is what it is, got to do a job, get it done. It worked out.”

Yes, Little and the operational crew delivered in the game’s waning seconds, but the celebration would have never ensued if it weren’t for Jacksonville’s fourth-string running back.

Abdullah, a 12-year veteran, fielded the Eagles’ kickoff and gained 53 yards on the return. His three returns for 98 yards were both season-highs. Abdullah caught the kickoff at the 7-yard line and wasn’t touched until passing Jacksonville’s 40. He was brought down at Philly’s 39-yard line with one second left for Little to send Jacksonville to 4-1.

The field goal marked Little’s fourth career game-winning boot, which is the league’s third-most since 2024.

“I train and prepare for that moment,” he said. “Those are the times you’ve got to put those away. The best in the world put those away. So I took advantage of the opportunity and it was really cool.”

Parker Washington is the Jaguars’ Not-So-Hidden Gem

Jacksonville’s longest play of the season was at the hands of Parker Washington. The wideout found the end zone twice in the 19-17 win, including a 51-yard touchdown. His second score of the day went for 27 yards and slotted him as one of just three Jags to record two touchdown receptions for 25-plus yards in a single game.

Washington finished the day with six receptions for 124 yards and a PFF offensive grade of 84.2. He has added 699 receiving yards through the last eight contests, which sits at No. 3 in the league.

“I don’t know what everybody else thinks, but we feel like he’s pretty freakin’ good,” quarterback Trevor Lawrence said. “I think that’s what’s important is what we believe on our team and the faith and trust that I have in him, our whole team has in him. That’s really all that matters. Everybody else on the outside will learn.”

Washington has emerged as Lawrence’s No. 1 target in the wideout’s fourth year with the team. Sunday marked his fifth contest with 100 receiving yards.

Run Defense Reigns Strong

Sunday brought a bit of déjà vu to Jacksonville’s defense.

It allowed just 22 rushing yards one week after allowing 23 to Cincinnati. The Eagles were without starting running back Saquon Barkley and backup Tank Bigsby, but the feat should not be overlooked.

Will Shipley started the contest, but left the first half early with a foot injury. Former Gator Dameon Pierce handled the rest of the load, but picked up only 14 yards on 11 carries.

Jacksonville linebacker Foyesade Oluokun led the team with 10 tackles and posted a season-high run-defense grade of 84.6, per Pro Football Focus. Oluokun moved into seventh place in franchise history in tackles for loss with 32 after tallying one Sunday.

“We just love when we see that ball handed off and everybody kind of knows where to be at and when to shut off and everybody getting to the ball,” Oluokun said. “It’s kind of a hunting mentality we keep all the way through the game.”

Sunday marked the seventh time since 1967 that a team gave up 25 rushing yards or fewer in consecutive games. The Jaguars have also not allowed a 40-yard rusher this season.

Penalties Remain an Issue

Operational issues continue to hinder the Jaguars as they committed 13 penalties for 100 yards a week after recording 13 penalties for 125 yards in Week 4.

The Jags stared down a four-point deficit with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter with an opportunity to score for the first time since the game’s second drive. Instead, Jacksonville was called for five penalties on the series and turned the ball over on downs.

The offense faced a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, but Walker Little jumped before the snap. Two plays later, it had a delay-of-game penalty and Lawrence spiked the ball out of frustration and immediately confronted center Robert Hainsey.

“I was pretty frustrated at a lot of things — our offense, our team, myself, everything — just in that moment where we kind of lost our mind a little bit,” Lawrence said. “Some of the operational stuff we’ve got to clean up.”

After the play-clock violation, delay of game was called again, and Jacksonville failed to convert two plays later.

“He was frustrated, but he kept coming off the sideline like, ‘We’re shooting ourselves in the foot,’” Coen said. “It was like positive, negative, positive, negative. So as frustrating as it is, it still leaves you hope because you’re moving the ball. It just wasn’t really pretty.”

Jacksonville has committed the sixth-most penalties in the NFL (41), and has been able to overcome the mental mistakes of late.

“It ain’t pretty, but it’s gritty,” Coen said.

Category: Feature Sports News, Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL

[8
116,118,117
post-426103","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville-headlines","tag-jacksonville-news
["GET
