LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) \u2014 The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said that a domestic violence incident between students caused a lockdown at Riverdale High School on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
School officials said the school returned to normal operations after the incident on campus.<\/p>\n
The school was placed on secure status Monday afternoon, leading concerned parents to head to nearby neighborhoods. A secure status means entrances and exits are locked while learning continues inside. All students are safe, according to an email from school officials.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said there was an isolated incident, but did not provide more information. Multiple students told WINK News they heard a lunchroom altercation escalated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Riverdale High School Junior Eliot Schade said he saw deputies use a dog and drone to search for something near the JROTC tower on campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“You’re hearing everything from the students, not getting much from the school,” Schade said. “So it’s like just a whole lot of speculation.”<\/p>\n
Deputies remained in the area hours after secure status was lifted. The Sheriff’s Office deployed multiple dogs and a drone just south of the high school, off Buckingham Road, around 6:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
WINK News Reporter Hunter Walterman approached the deputies and asked if it was connected to the incident at Riverdale. A deputy said he could not disclose that information.\u00a0<\/p>\n
WINK News has repeatedly reached out the Sheriff’s Office for more information, including whether a suspect is in custody.<\/p>\n
Riverdale High School Junior Kayce Alvarez said students were kept in secure status for about half-an-hour. Her teacher closed the blinds as sirens get closer to campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Everybody had to call their parents, let them know what was happening,” Alvarez said. “It’s just insane.”<\/p>\n
Daijon Campbell recently graduated from Riverdale. He immediately reached out to his younger brother, Caleb, a junior, after he heard something happened.<\/p>\n
“I haven’t been out of school too long, but I know when it comes to code red, code red is very serious,” Campbell said.<\/p>\n
Campbell navigated a chaotic pick-up line, as cars blocked an intersection across the street from campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n
