JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Mayo Clinic in Florida marked 40 years since it opened to patients, growing from a five-story building into a global medical destination that serves more than 184,000 patients from more than 80 countries each year.<\/p>\n
When it opened Oct. 13, 1986, the Jacksonville campus had 35 physicians and 145 support staff. Today, it employs nearly 12,000 staff members across 50 specialty areas.<\/p>\n
U.S. News & World Report\u2019s 2026\u20132027 \u201cBest Hospitals\u201d rankings named it the No. 1 hospital in Florida<\/a> and nationally recognized it in eight specialties. It also made the Honor Roll of the nation\u2019s top 20 hospitals<\/a> for the first time. Newsweek ranked it the No. 1 hospital in the Southeast.<\/p>\n \u201cThroughout the last 40 years, the dedication, resilience and ingenuity of our teams have driven remarkable progress,\u201d said Kent Thielen, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida.<\/p>\n Over the past decade, Mayo Clinic has invested more than $1 billion in campus development, more than doubling its physical footprint.
