Robert Anthony “Bob” Marcus, 77, of Tierra Verde, Florida, and Glen Carbon, Illinois, died on September 29, 2026, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Bob was born in Chicago on December 29, 1948, to Robert George and Angeline (Kulig) Marcus, and grew up in the city’s Roseland neighborhood. He attended St. Salomea School and Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago, earned a degree in biology from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and went on to receive a Master of Public Administration from DePaul University.

Bob met the love of his life, Nancy Ann Olesek, at a dance, where she tested whether he knew Polish by telling him, “Daj mi buzi” (“Give me a kiss”). They were married on June 12, 1971, at St. Columba Church in Hegewisch, and shared 55 years of marriage. Bob was devoted to Nancy and took wonderful care of her, always at her side when she needed him most.

Bob served as a federal agent with the U.S. Department of the Treasury for over 30 years. Following his retirement from the federal government, he became a licensed boat captain and held a Florida private investigator’s license. He was also a motorcycle safety instructor with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, teaching riders in Virginia, Illinois, and Florida, and a member of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club in Illinois, Virginia, and Florida. Always generous and quick to help others, Bob was a faithful blood donor, giving more than 250 times and over 30 gallons in his lifetime.

He loved fishing, boating, and motorcycle riding, but nothing delighted him more than his six grandchildren, who knew him as Papa. He was amazed by their personalities and their humor, and impressed by everything they accomplished.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Michelle (Adam) Brzyski of Chesterfield, Missouri; his son, the Honorable Robert (Karen) Marcus of Glen Carbon, Illinois; his grandchildren, Adam, Jacob, Grace, and Olivia Brzyski and Caroline and Robert Marcus; his sister, Mary Ann (Bill) Bennett of Orland Park, Illinois; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Terry Olesek of Schererville, Indiana; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his lifelong friend, Pete Host of Orland Hills, Illinois, whose friendship began at Mendel Catholic High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Angeline, and his brother, Philip Joseph Marcus.
