ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WWSB) – Tuesday night\u2019s Game 2 of the ALCS between the Rays and the Guardians wasn\u2019t exactly a must-win in terms of keeping their World Series hopes alive – but a win sure wouldn\u2019t hurt.<\/p>\n
The Rays threw their ace pitcher in Game 1 on Monday night. Drew Rasmussen was solid, but not stellar when compared to his Game 1 performance against the Yankees in the ALDS.<\/p>\n
Rasmussen gave up six hits heading into the sixth inning on Monday night, but gave up solo homeruns in the sixth and seventh innings that allowed the Guardians to tie the game at 2-2. Cleveland\u2019s twelve hits on Monday matched the total hits for the Yankees in their entire ALDS series with the Rays.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday it was a relatively quiet first three innings. Freddy Peralta got through the fourth only having surrendered three hits. It was scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning with Ben Williamson at the dish for the Rays with two outs.<\/p>\n
Williamson lined a drive down the third baseline, but Jose Ramirez couldn\u2019t corral the ball. Victor Mesa Jr. scored to make it a 1-0 Tampa Bay lead. The Rays continued to apply the pressure, with Liam Hicks next singling to center to drive in Chandler Simpson and Williamson for the 3-0 advantage heading into the fifth.<\/p>\n
Freddy Peralta continued getting things done for the Rays, getting through the sixth inning striking out Petey Halpin swinging.<\/p>\n
With relievers on the mound for the Rays, Cleveland got traffic on base in the seventh, scoring a run on Chase DeLauter double to right field. With two on and two outs, Ian Seymour was able to get Jo Adell swinging to get out of the inning up 3-1.<\/p>\n
From there Seymour and closer Bryan Baker were able to shut the door on the Guardians, securing the 3-1 victory, and tying the series up at 1-1. The series now shifts to Cleveland for Game 3 on Thursday. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
